4th August Founders’ Day is the date which shaped and determined the course of our collective history – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has explained that the importance of the August 4 Founder’s Day cannot be over emphasised, as two of the most significant events in the national history, which led to the attainment of national independence, occurred on this day, hence its designation as Founders’ Day.

He referred to the formation of the Aborigines Rights Protection Society, whose, he said, members protected the lands from the grasp of the “greedy colonialists” and the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention, which “first sounded the clarion call for freedom from colonial bondage.”

“4th August is the date which shaped and determined the course of our collective history – setting the stage for an organised front for Ghana’s independence struggle,” he stressed.

In a Facebook post, Mr Akufo-Addo said “On Thursday, 4th August 2022, I celebrated Founders’ Day with our distinguished Senior Citizens, which happens to be the fourth time in our nation’s history that August 4th has been so rightfully commemorated

He further assured the people of Ghana, while addressing senior citizens at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), at the Founders’ Day luncheon in honour of senior citizens, on Thursday 4 August 2022, that his government will work to revive and revitalize the economy.

This, he said, would put the nation back on the path of rapid economic growth.

“Since the attainment of independence 65 years ago, we have bemoaned the fact that our nation has not leaved up to its vast potential and countries, especially those in south east Asia such as Korea and Malaysia which gained their independence at the same time as we did have outstripped us in terms of development,” he said.

Mr Akufo-Addo added “In spite of the many obstacles that we have had to surmount including prolong periods of instability and military rule, fueled by several coup d’états, one thing I continue to be proud of is the can do spirit of the Ghanaian and out determination not to be backed down by events and allow the circumstances and challenges of today to shape our collective future.

“I am confident that we will revive and revitalize the economy and put our nation back on the path of rapid economic growth, a scenario we had become accustom to in the last three immediate years before the pandemic struck” Akufo-Addo said.

“This is a solemn pledge I am making to you. I remain resolutely optimistic about Ghana’s future which I continue to believe is bright” he stressed.
