Involve the people in the community when designing & constructing roads – Professor

Lecturer at the Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, Professor Isaac Boateng has advised the authorities to involve the community when constructing roads.

Professor Isaac Boateng speaking in an interview on Kessben TV/FM with Ali Baba Dankambari noted that the people in the community should not be left out when these roads are designed.

According to the professor, in a bid to eliminate the high vehicular/motor accidents on our roads, the people of the community where the roads are constructed should be involved with their inputs on how the roads are designed. “The people who live in the community know the place very well and have lived there for a longer period.

They know the place very well and understand their needs with their experience of using the road so it is very important to always involve them when designing and constructing the roads” He said. “It is very bad, what do we see, a contractor will just come with his machines to a place and will start working without consulting.

After the work then he will leave without having a maintenance plan. When you go to a place like Malaysia, a contractor cannot just bring his machines and work on any road and leave, if a contractor works on a road, they make sure he does not take his machines back, their laws ensure the machines are kept for future maintenance of the road” He added.
