Unilever MD Pays Visit To Road Minister

The Managing Director of Unilever Ghana Ltd accompanied by his Public Affairs and Sustanance Director, Mr George Bonsu paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Roads and Highways , Mr. Akwasi Amoako Atta in his office .

The purpose of his visit was to congratulate him on reappointment as the Road Minister. The MD recounted the fond memory of his days with the minister at Unilever as a Legal Director before Mr Amoako Atta resigned to enter into Politics in 2016 and won the Atiwa West seat for the NPP.

According to the MD the minister had a clean record at Unilever at the various divisions he worked at with unblemish record and it’s something the company appreciates so much. He told journalists that the minister excelled in every division he worked at without a single disciplinary action against him for all the years he spent at the company and his hard work has certainly culminated in his promotion to a position of a minister of state.

He indicated that his quality leadership at Unilever will see him through his current position and the company is so proud of him. The MD urged the minister not to hesitate to contact Unilever for any assistance in any area they can be of help to his ministry. In his reply, the minister simply said ; ” you have really made my day and if there’s any day l will never forget in my life, it will be this day.

Little did l know that a day like this will come in my life for someone to eulogize me like this”. The Hon. Minister thanked Unilever for the kind words spoken about him and certainly said he was highly elated. “My training at Unilever has prepared me to excell wherever l may go and anyone can find out from my staff and management here at the Ministry. As a Presibytarian, discipline, hard work, honesty, equity and the fear of the Lord are my guiding principles as same as Unilever.

The principles that l have been trained with at Unilever have seen me through ; integrity, honesty, safety standards, respect for my personnel, hard work ,sincerity ; and l can assure you that it would be the last thing to do anything untoward here at the ministry and my staff can attest to that”he intimated.

The minister told Unilever that the president Nana Addo D Akufo Addo doesn’t tolerate dishonesty and wrong politicking and he wouldn’t do anything to disappoint him. He took time to elaborate on all the road projects his Government has embarked on and claimed that no government under the fourth republic can compare itself to the current administration as far as road construction is concerned by mentioning some of them.

He indicated that the year of roads is still on course and that all major trunk roads would be dualised to reduce fatalities on our roads. He therefore urged Unilever to assist them in the area of safety on the roads and warned that any driver,or his staff who will compromise on safety on our roads would be dealt with severely.

“I have been told by National security that there are deals by the truck drivers and personnel manning the 18 centres of the weighing bridge ( axle load ) thereby allowing overloaded vehicles to pass to destroy our roads. Am sounding this warning that anyone whether staff of the ministry or whoever found out, will be given out for prosecution without mercy.

As I speak, some staff and drivers are in police grip pending prosecution so for warned is for armed. He told journalists that even if he is caught in the act he must be arrested since no one is above the laws it the land and he would not hesitate to dismiss any staff found in the act after prima facie case has been established against the fellow.
