Savannah Regional Police Arrest Two Suspected Kidnappers
The Police in the Savannah Region have arrested two suspected kidnappers near Sawaba on the Tamale-Buipe Highway in the Central Gonja District of the region.
According to the Police, the suspects, Aliu Mohammed, 23 and Naaru Joli, 20 following their arrest confessed their involvement in the recent kidnapping of one Laagi Mahamadu at the outskirts of Yapei, also in the Central Gonja district in April, this year.
The victim’s father, Umaru Mohammed, paid a ransom of GH₵10,000 for his release.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting in further investigations.
The police have also intensified their search for five other persons who are said to be their accomplices.
They are Babuga, Amadu, Burger, Haruna and Sumaila.
Arrest
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Savannah Regional Police Command, Inspector Owusu Adjekum, confirmed the arrest and subsequent confessions of the two suspects to Graphic Online.
He said on July 30, 2021at about 2am, the Buipe Police patrol team arrested Aliu and Naaru with Sonlink and Honda motorbikes with registration numbers M-20-NR 5469 and M- 12-NR-3254 riding towards Buipe direction on the Tamale-Buipe highway near Sawaba.
He said the police patrol team who suspected them as motorbike snatchers arrested them and brought them to the Buipe Police station for investigation.
Inspector Adjekum said during interrogation, the two suspects confessed their involvement in a recent kidnapping case in the area and mentioned one Babagu , Amadu, Burger, Haruna and Sumaila who are on the run as their accomplices.
The Savannah Regional Police Command PRO said there has been an increase in kidnapping cases in the recent past in the region but the police was on top of the situation to nib this crime in the bud to ensure that law abiding citizens of the area move freely without any apprehensions.
