Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, general overseer of Power Chapel has implored Ghanaians to received the announcement of the National Cathedral donation from Ken Ofori Atta in good faith and donate to the Secretariat to complete the project.
Some Ghanaians have heightened criticisms against the government after the Finance Minister during the presentation of the mid-year budget review indicated that the board of trustees of the cathedral will on August 12 launch the ‘GHS 100 a month club’ initiative to appeal for donations from citizens towards the construction of the project.
Speaking in an interview with Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben Tv, on Monday, August 2, 2021, Rev Victor Kusi Boateng clarified that, the appeal for funds towards the construction of the cathedral is not an initiative of the government despite the announcement by Ken Ofori Atta.
He explained that the board of trustees suggested such a decision to the government when they had consultations on how to raise funds to aid the completion of the unexampled facility.
Thus, pleaded with Ghanaians to use the special shot code *979# to all network and contribute to the appeal to expedite the construction of the facility scheduled to be commissioned on March 6, 202
- The renowned man of God underlined that the work on the project is steadily progressing, hence, the one million Ghanaians targeted to give through the “Ketoa Biaa Nsua” appeal will really facilitate the construction.
The $100-million inter-denominational cathedral will have an auditorium capable of seating 5,000 people, as well as chapels and a baptistery.
The site will also house a music school, an art gallery, and a museum dedicated to the Bible.
The work on the cathedral picked up in earnest in January 2020, with a fence wall bearing an artistic impression of the cathedral erected around the perimeter of the site.
A foundation stone signifying the commencement of construction work was laid on March 5, last year.
