Fans of RTU in jubilant mood after securing qualification to Ghana Premier League

The Pride of the North are back to the domestic top flight after eight years in the second-tier league.

Real Tamale United qualified to play Ghana’s Premier League next season after beating Unity FC 2-0 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale after Bofoakwa drew goalless with Berekum Arsenal at the Golden City Park.

Tied on 65 points, RTU secured promotion over Bofoakwa with a better head-to-head after drawing goalless with the Otobila Boys in Sunyani and winning 2-0 in Tamale in the reverse fixture.

RTU were relegated from the Ghana Premier League in April 2013 after losing 4-1 to New Edubiase United with seven matches to the end of the season. The Pride of the North ended the season without a win in 30 matches – five draws and 25 defeats.

Real Tamale made their debut in the topflight in the 1978 season and finished 3rd on the league log and had since been a force to reckon with.

However, Real Tamale United now joins Bibiani Gold Stars and Accra Lions FC who walk into the ‘table of men’ where ‘kings and Queens dine.’
