CJ $5m bribery scandal: GLC has no power to investigate him-Lawyer Opoku Agyeman
The Director of Legal education at the school of law, Mr. Maxwell Opoku Agyeman says General Legal Council has no powers to investigate and impeach the Chief Justice over $5 million bribery allegation level against him.
Lawyer Opoku Agyemang indicated the council is being constituted by the Chief Justice to deal with some misconducts of Lawyers and Judges in their professional etiquette.
Speaking to Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben Maakye, he questioned why a Lawyer, Akwasi Afrifa mentioning the Chief Justice’s name in his response to the General Legal Council.
“He could have just responded to the allegation which he has been accused of without bringing in the Chief Justice’s name”
“It is not better for us to bring someone’s had earned reputation down, it is not easy to be a Supreme court judge and not to talk about Chief Justice. He (Chief Justice) also has a family and people who depend on him”.
“If I were him I would have written to impeach the Chief Justice if indeed he has taken bribe as being alleged. The General Legal Council has no power to investigate the Chief Justice over this matter”. He added
Lawyer Akwasi Afrifa while responding to a petition filed against him at the General Legal Council alleged that a former client he was representing at the Supreme court told him that the Chief Justice had demanded a $5 million bribe from him to influence a case in his favour allegedly. Meanwhile, the Chief Justice has denied such allegation on Monday, July 12, 2021
