We lost due to poor officiating – Johnson Smith

Asante Kotoko head coach Johnson Smith fumes about what he described as poor officiating in their defeat to Bechem United over the weekend.

The Porcupine Warriors fell to a painful 2-1 loss against the Hunters last Sunday in Bechem, a win that confirmed arch-rivals Hearts of Oak as winners of the Ghana Premier League for the first time in over a decade now. Steven Owusu grabbed brace to mark his seventh goal of the season including a 41st minute penalty which has been hugely pictured as dubious with referee Jones Akubiem and his assistants been criticised heavily for that call. Speaking after the game, the ex- Karela United gaffer stated he paraded the best squad at his disposal and his boys played really well only to be distracted by a poor officiating, the only reason they lost the game. He said;  “It’s all due to the officiating because the dubious penalty he had for Bechem people dampened our spirit, that’s why.”  “The team we presented was a very good team, because of the injuries even Keyeke is injured but he was forced to play.” “But due to the referees officiating, that brings all the dampening of the spirit.” The Porcupine Warriors will welcome Elmina Sharks in the final fixture of the 2020/21 season this weekend at the Len Clay Stadium.
