If Government Don’t Pay Us by Friday, We Will Advise Ourselves- Cocoa Farmers

Some cocoa farmers across the country have lamented over the non-payment of their cocoa produce.
The 2018 National best cocoa farmer Mr Charles Gyamfi has threatened to go all out with the government if it failed to pay cocoa farmers.

He said the government has promised to pay the farmers by coming Friday 25th June 2021 for the purchase of cocoa beans.
The farmers have been complaining about the failure on the part of the government to settle the debt.
Some of the farmers who spoke on Kessben ‘Ka W’asem’ program on Wednesday 23rd June 2021 alleged that over the last three to four months now, they have not received a penny from the government, a situation they described as unfortunate say has worsened their plight as they are unable to fend for their families.

Speaking to Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben Media, Mr Gyamfi revealed that the farmers are up in arms to dire the consequences to face the government if their monies are not paid.

The government through COCOBOD to the Licensing Buying Companies has been given the mandate to purchase cocoa from the farmers and with added money to augment their funds for the purchase of cocoa and is not supposed to be an exclusive source of funds for the purchase of cocoa.

In a telephone interview on Kessben Media, Fiifi Boafo, manager of COCOBOD Chief Executive Officer has confirmed that the government has paid the farmers to PBCs for about two weeks, expressing shock as to why the farmers cocoa farmers have not received the money.
