Work towards credible register – Tamale Chief to EC
The Chief of Tamale has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure transparency by fast-tracking the compilation of a credible register for the November 7 polls.
According to Naa Dakpema Dawuni Alhassan, the acceptability of the results of the November polls will largely depend on a credible voters register.
Naa Dakpema Dawuni Alhassan’s call comes at a time when pro-opposition pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance, is threatening to demonstrate against the EC over delays in auditing the existing voters’ register.
The Tamale Chief in an interview with Citi News insisted that a speedy compilation of the voters’ register will most likely guarantee free, fair and transparent polls on November 7. Naa Dakpema Dawuni Alhassan described the November 7 polls as a test of the EC’s ability hence the need for them to act right.
“They should do the right thing that is what we expect them to do. One person doesn’t choose the people of EC, it is only the nation that will come together to select the people for EC and so EC should also look at this point and see to it that whatever they are doing people are watching them,” Naa Dakpema observed.
The Tamale chief lamented, “They should do it more credibly such that everybody will understand .”
