Mass burial for 10 Kintampo road accident victims
The Kintampo Government Hospital has confirmed that 10 out of the 58 corpses that were deposited at its mortuary as a result of last Wednesday’s fatal accident involving a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus and a cargo truck have been buried in a mass grave.
The exercise, according to the Administrator of the hospital, Mr Damasus Ayangba, was carried out by the Kintampo North District Assembly, in conjunction with the police.
He told the Daily Graphic in an interview that the remaining 48 bodies had been identified and collected by their respective families.
He explained that the assembly took the decision to bury the deceased last Sunday after nobody had come for the bodies after several announcements had been made to that effect.
But reports emanating from Kintampo indicate that some of the bodies which were identified and collected by families were also buried at Kintampo, with the assistance of the Kintampo District Assembly, the police and some religious organisations.
Last Wednesday, a fatal accident involving the MMT bus and the cargo truck which was loaded with tomatoes claimed over 60 lives, with 25 injuries.
The bodies of 58 were deposited at the Kintampo Government Hospital morgue, while three were deposited at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital morgue.
When a team of ministers of state visited the Kintampo Government Hospital last Thursday, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Bismark Owusu-Fosu, complained about the limited facilities at the hospital and explained that a similar accident in the area had overstretched the capacity of the mortuary.
