Delegates were bribed GH¢500 to vote for Greenstreet – Samia
Former Convention Peoples Party (CPP) Chairperson, Madam Samia Nkrumah, has suggested that ‘vote buying’ caused her defeat in the party’s presidential primary in Accra on Saturday.
Madam Nkrumah polled 579 votes, representing about 28.9% of the total votes cast, while Mr Greenstreet, an immediate past General Secretary of the party, polled 1,288 votes to win the contest.
Speaking to journalists after her defeat, Madam Nkrumah said she would continue to support the party despite what she said was the bribery that characterised the election.
“No; I’m obviously not happy with the results, but I accept them. The fact of the matter is that every delegate was paid GH¢200 and GH¢500 actually, among many other things. So, it was down to money and of course we cannot be happy about that but we accept the results, and we move on.
“There is a lot of work to be done and I will always serve the party. It’s a vision to serve not for an individual,” she was quoted as saying.
Two other contenders, Joseph Agyapong and Bright Akwetey had 82 votes and 44 votes respectively.
