Investing In PFJ Is In Line With The Policy Of Gov’t – Deputy Agric Minister Tells Mahama

The deputy minister of agriculture , Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo has debunked the assertion made by former President John Mahama that ‘Monies should be invested in the planting for food and jobs else there will be shortage of food in the country”, However, he appreciated the concerns raised by the former president but he disclosed to Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben 92.9FM in Accra that the program initiated president Nana Addo in the agriculture sector is the consolidation of gains of planting for foods and jobs and this starts with the injection of more capitals and expand their territories.

According to him, about 1.7million Ghanaian farmers have enrolled in the planting for food and job with different modules but it is their wish that 3million farmers in Ghana will enroll in the PFJ and that will boost production.

He stated that, the budget allocated for the planting for food and has been increased consistently and greater percentage of capital from the Obaatanpa Cares project has been invested in the PFJ and agricultural business and their focus is to attract the youth into agriculture, this is to expand frontiers and create more agriculture jobs for the youth he stated.

Early this year, there have been a rapid increment of seasonal foods which has made Ghanaians lament. Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo explained that the last year climate change had a negative impart on agriculture which caused low productivity hence the increment and also affected by covid-19 because some African countries depended on Ghana for food which caused the shortage in the country and according to him during the time of food shortage in the country most storage facilities were not ready.

He also stated that he personally had a discussion with his leaders to use the buffer stock in buying more surplus from the farm. He also added that the government has built enough storage facilities that will enable them to store more food supplement and will be released in the country whenever the need arises. Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo also assured Ghanaians that there will be abundant foodstuff next year and there will not be foodstuff hikes.
