Hell broke loose at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) office at the Bosomtwe Constituency in the Ashanti Region Friday afternoon.
This was when angry party executives, who are torn between the two parliamentary aspirants, were at each other’s throat, exchanging blows to the chagrin of party supporters and onlookers.
Alhaji Sadique, Organizer; Hagar Osei, Women Organizer and Nana Senya Dwomoh, Treasurer, who have declared their support for Dickson Manu aka Yaw Barimma, were on one side.
Deputy Women Organiser, Aminu Adamu, Deputy Organiser, Asamoah Boampong and Communications Officer, Wofa Atta, who support the DCE of Bosomtwe, Veronica Antwi Adjei, are said to be the opponents of the executives mentioned earlier.
Alhaji Sadique was said to have attacked Aminu Adamu; Asamoah Boampong engaged Hagar Osei in a brawl whilst Wofa Atta and Nana Senya Dwomoh openly traded punches in the presence of Mr. Degraft, the NDC chairman in the area.
The constituency executives had met at the party office to discuss the NDC voter register exhibition in the constituency to clear ‘ghost’ names from the party’s electoral roll when suddenly, tempers flared up.
Alhaji Sadique admitted that he pounced on Amina Adamu for insulting ex-energy minister, Oteng Adjei and this sparked the free-for-all fight, which saw tables and chairs being thrown into the air.
Confirming the incident on Nhyira FM, Alhaji Sadique said, “Amina Adamu insulted me and Mr. Oteng Adjei and I confronted her in a brutal fashion,” noting that he nearly manhandled the NDC deputy women organizer.
Alhaji Sadique said after several minutes of fighting, sanity was eventually restored at the place, stating that there is still tension in the constituency as the party executives are sharply divided.
Mr. Degraft also confirmed the fight, accusing Alhaji Sadique of starting the brawl which extended to other executives and drawing a crowd to the party office.
The two aspirants, Veronica Antwi Adjei and Yaw Barimma, also called into the radio programme on Monday and they openly lambasted each other in a manner which seemed to have dented the image of the NDC.
