Obiri Boahen dismisses 80% votes for Mahama in B/A

The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has watered down suggestions by the chief of Sunyani that President Mahama will win 80 percent of votes in the region in the 2016 elections. The chief of Sunyani, Nana Asor Nkrawiri, told a gathering during a visit by the President to the area, that the chiefs of the area are appreciative of the developmental projects undertaken by  the NDC government hence their promise.
But in a reaction to the comments on Eyewitness News, Nana Obiri Boahen said there was no way the NDC will garner more votes than the NPP in the Brong Ahafo region, “If he had limited himself to Sunyani, that would have even been it, but to say that the whole region will be voting for the president that is never correct and that can never be possible,” he said.
Similar comments had been made earlier by the Chief of Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region. He was reported to have assured President Mahama of a 50 percent vote for the NDC in the region. But lawyer Obiri Boahen decried the utterances by the chiefs describing it as unconstitutional. “Constitutionally, chiefs are not supposed to take part in partisan politics, It is unfortunate that all the chiefs are now engaging in partisan politics,” he lamented. Nana Obiri Boahen, who admits that some chiefs have been seen openly declaring their support for either the NDC or the NPP, said the utterances of the chiefs are not surprising.
