Police in Afram Plains in the Eastern Region say they are yet to make any arrest in connection with the killing of some Fulanis in the area. Three Fulani men were reported to have been killed following a clash between two communities in the Afram Plains.
One out of the three was beheaded while eleven others were injured. The attack is reported to have been a reprisal attack by a group of people in the area.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yaw Nketiah Yeboah, said his men are on the grounds investigating the matter.
He further assured the public that the perpetrators would be arrested and brought to book. “We have not made any arrest yet but if anything comes up we will make the necessary arrests.
Something like this normally happens within the Afram Plains area but four people within one weekend its a no; something like that has not happened before” he noted.
He also clarified that although the victims are Fulanis, they were not herdsmen as earlier reported but farmers. “I will also like to put on record that they are not Fulani Herdsmen.
Although they are Fulanis they stay there with their families…they are people staying in their homes, working as farmers.” Clashes between Fulani herdsmen and local farmers are a common occurrence in the Afram Plains area and other parts of the Eastern Region.
The fights often come about following accusations by local farmers that their farms are destroyed by the cattle belonging to the Fulani herdsmen who they also accuse of human right abuses such as rape.
