Agric Minister Inaugurates Quality Control Board

The Hon Minister of Food and Agriculture ,Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has outdoored a five member board for the Quality Control Division of the COCOBOD at his ministry in Accra.

Speaking at the ceremony, the minister charged the board to craft a new scientific ways to put the Cocoa industry on the world map to make Ghana Cocoa the best and most attractive.

He recounted how the board went into slumber as a result of some technical bottlenecks, but he has had to bring it back to play the critical role akin of them in the industry. ” You have a critical role to situate the cocoa industry in it’s proper perspective that saw the industry lead in production and quality.

This gave the country premium price and patronage. Those days ,Ghana’s cocoa was always sought for due to its quality and treatment. We cannot downplay that important role as we aim at capturing the first class cocoa beans position”.

The minister intimated that Cot D’Ivoire took their lessons of quality assurance from Ghana that is how come they are rubbing shoulders with Ghana and we must reintroduce quality control measures to reclaim our rightful position. He emphasized that the world knows Ghana for its quality cocoa beans and he will make sure we get that position back.

He therefore charged the board to live up to their role and responsibility to justify their appointments. He said government views their role as very important and as a catalyst to position the industry in real competitive world and so much is expected of them. That’s why they have been selected from different backgrounds to advise and ensure on quality assurance. Giving the acceptance speech, the chairman of the Board, Dr Ebenezer Owusu, a senior lecturer of science at Legon thanked the minister for appointing them.

He assured the minister and the Government that they will give off their best for the honour done them. He promised on behalf of his colleagues to give of their best to justify the confidence reposed in them. The five member board consist of : Dr Ebenezer Owusu, Mr. Kwaku Oppong, Mr Saanbaye Basilido, Dr Martinson OMK Julius and Dr Barima Afranie.
