‘Deserted’ Kwapong Police station now market centre – B/A Police

Weeks after some residents raided the police station at Kwapong in the Brong Ahafo Region following an uprising within the town, it has emerged that the residents have converted the police station to a market centre
Members of an angry mob forcefully broke into the police station, dragged and lynched a fetish priest whom they accused of killing a resident of the town. The police officers stationed at the town subsequently left the area in a bid to secure their safety. But recent information available to Citi News indicated that the residents are engaging in trading activities at the station.
The Regional Police PRO, ASP Christopher Tawiah who confirmed the situation to Citi News however explained that the police had little influence to avert the decision by the residents. “Well it was built by the community and if they have decided that they do not want the police and have therefore taken over it, and moreover the IGP has also given directive that the policemen should be transferred, then I think that they have the right to have it,” he said. Meanwhile two more persons have been arrested in connection with the violence that characterized the area. According to ASP Tawiah, the two have been put before court and remanded. They are however expected to reappear before the court in due time.
