NIA ceases card replacements at regional offices

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has ceased offering card replacement services at its regional offices with effect from Monday, August 8.

That service has been taken to its 275 operational district offices.

Again, from Monday, August 8, the regional offices will concentrate on update of personal information including change or correction of name.

These services will also attract a fee of GH¢30 at any CAL Bank branch or via short code *771# and will be done upon the completion of an electronic form, from hence.

“All applicants for the update service will be required to provide the reason for the update and must support the request with evidence,” the Authority said in a statement issued by Acting Head of Corporate Affairs Dr Abudu Abdul-Ganiyu.

Services which do not require the printing of a new card such as change or correction of residential, postal or digital address, change of marital status, change of occupation, change of level of education, among others, will be offered for free.

The statement from NIA also announced that update of personal information will from Monday, September 12 be decentralised to the 275 district offices.

“Applicants should also take note that not every request for an update or replacement will be handled on the day it is made,” it cautioned.

“Review of requests may take longer than a day. Applicants will be required to pay the statutory fee only when requests are approved and NOT before.”

According to NIA, these measures have been taken not only as a result of the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation’s deadline extension for the SIM card re-registration but also in line with its operational strategy for continuous registration and provision of identity management services across the country.
