Chelsea striker Diego Costa banned for three games after Arsenal win
Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been banned for three matches for violent conduct following an incident in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Arsenal, the Football Association has announced.
As the game approached half-time, Costa appeared to twice rake his hands across Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny’s face before chest-bumping him to the ground.
Arsenal defender Gabriel then came over to defend his teammate, and he and Costa received yellow cards following a confrontation. A minute later, the Arsenal centre-back was sent off for flicking a boot at the Chelsea player.
However, the FA has decided that Gabriel’s red card will be revoked, while Costa will face a three-match ban.
A statement on the FA website read: “An FA charge against Diego Costa for violent conduct not seen by the match officials but caught on video has been found proven following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.
“The Chelsea forward will, therefore, serve the standard penalty of a three-match suspension with immediate effect.
“The charge, which the player denied, was in relation to an incident involving Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny in the 43rd minute of the game on Saturday [19 September 2015].”
