A Parliamentary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tamale South constituency is accusing the incumbent Member of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu of bribing ward executives not to endorse his nomination forms. Mohammed Ali alias one man, a loyalist of the NDC founder says he suffered from a similar fate during the last Parliamentary primary in the Tamale South constituency.
According to Mohammed Ali who is a senior lecturer with the Tamale Polytechnic, the Tamale South Legislator seeking to go unopposed for the fourth time is afraid of internal contest. “A Member of Parliament who enjoyed this political monopoly over the years and believes in his popularity and love of the people should not afraid to go for contest.” Mohammed Ali asked, “If he is not afraid of contest why is he always making sure that he threatens the various electoral areas not to endorse the forms of a challenger.”
He alleged that Haruna Iddrisu is coercing ward representatives expected to endorse his candidature to reject his nomination forms. He claimed some constituency executives subservient to Haruna Iddrisu went round and collected party member cards of branch executives expected to endorse his nomination forms. “Today we have had difficulty continuing with the endorsements because of the seizure of members party cards and secondly the branch executives have been threatened not to endorse my forms if they want the MP to extend development to their communities.” Mohammed Ali alias one man told Citi News he will resist any attempt to truncate his Parliamentary ambition for the second time. He therefore implored the NDC regional and national executives to call the Tamale South Legislator to order.
