Failed assassin Antwi released to begin psychiatric life

The man who wanted to assassinate president John Mahama has gained his freedom from prisons, but will be confined at the Psychiatric Hospital to determine his mental acumen.

Antwi’s first stop at the hospital was at the Out Patient Department where he is undergoing basic checks.

Charles Antwi, 36, has spent close to a month in jail after a Circuit Court slapped a 10-year jail term on him for storming Mahama’s church – Ringway Gospel Center – with a loaded and cocked pistol.
However, an Accra Human Rights Court on Monday set aside the ruling leading to his release today.

The judge in a certiorari order ruled that Antwi, who has been declared mentally unstable after medical examination, should be taken to the Psychiatric Hospital for further treatment.
