Contractor pleads with market women to pack out for Kumasi Central Market redevelopment construction

Construction works on the redevelopment of the Kumasi Central Market, said to be the largest in the West African sub-region has started.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II cut the sod for construction works to begin on the Kumasi Central Market Redevelopment Project on Thursday, May 2, 2019.

The contractor for the reconstruction of the Kumasi Central Market has advised market women to vacate the market by Saturday night for phase 2 of the reconstruction of the market to begin.

Mr. Danso, speaking in an interview with Accra-based Kessben 92.9 FM confirmed that all the machines for the reconstruction of the market are ready, waiting for the set date to begin work.

The Ashanti regional minister in a press statement affirmed the demolition of the market will take effect on Sunday 12th September 2021.

Mr. Danso urged the market women who still have their properties in the market as a matter of urgency to take adhere to the Saturday night deadline and pack out peacefully.

“We have timelines we’re working with. Every day from 6: 00 AM, we open the gate so that they can come in and take away some of their things. As some have started vacating the market, we continue to plead with others to pack little by little so that by Saturday night the market will be empty, and in the early hours of Sunday, the demolition will begin”
