3 injured as Bawku youth clash with Police
Three persons have sustained injuries after a clash between the police and some angry youth at Bawku in the Upper East region.
The District Chief Executive for Bawku Issalka Bukari confirmed to Joynews that the clash was caused by misunderstanding between some clerics and policemen.
Prior to the clashes, the police had picked up a certain Mallam who had been forcing some children to go begging for alms in the streets. He had also been teaching them some Arabic.
The police had advised him to stop sending the children to go begging. But after the Mallam persisted in using the kids, he was arrested.
People from the area beseeched the police station demanding the release of the Mallam but the police ignored them.
The youth escalated their demands when they returned Sunday to the police station in their numbers to forcibly free their leader.
The policemen fired warning shots after the youth vandalized the police station.
In the ensuing struggle three people are said to be injured. It has not been confirmed whether the injuries was caused by bullet wounds.
