Traders in the Tema Central Business District have kicked against an increment in property rate and daily tolls by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
The traders, who demonstrated this morning to register their displeasure, were clad in red bands amidst chanting of war songs and a popular tune, ‘Y3n tie Obiaa’. The traders later presented a petition to the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo who at the time was at the TMA. He however handed over the petition to the Chief Executive of the TMA, Isaac Ashai Odamtten.
Speaking to Radio Ghana after the presentation, the Vice Chairman of the Tema Traders Association, Kwasi Agyemang lamented that the increment of property rates is having an adverse effect on their trading activities, saying traders who were paying as low as 12 Ghana cedis previously now have to pay 240 Ghana cedis. The Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo who received the petition assured them of the Assembly’s resolve to address their grievances.
