Wolfsburg await Blues next move over De Bruyne
Manchester City are keen to land the Wolfsburg playmaker but the German club claim there has been no bid and that he doesn’t want to leave.
Wolfsburg have put the ball back in Manchester City ’s court in the protracted battle for Kevin de Bruyne.
The Blues have tabled a bid of around £46m for the playmaker, who they have tracked since the end of last season.
And captain Vincent Kompany has urged club bosses to get a deal over the line so his fellow Belgian can join him at the Etihad.
But despite City being confident the former Chelsea midfielder wants to move to Manchester, they are less certain that Wolfsburg will sell.
They want De Bruyne to force the issue by telling his current employers he wants to go.
But the German club’s coach Dieter Hecking has further muddied the waters by claiming the player is not pushing for a transfer – and that there hasn’t been an offer from City.
Sporting director Klaus Allofs admitted earlier this week that City’s interest has ‘turned De Bruyne’s head’ but Hecking said: “There has not been an offer for him.
He told Sport Bild: “Kevin does not give the impression that he wants to leave Wolfsburg. He is giving his all in training.
“He is an integral part of my plans. I am convinced that he will only get better.”
Despite that, Hecking appeared considering life without De Bruyne.
He added: “It would be hard for any team to replace a player of Kevin’s stature. But if he were to leave, the responsibility of replacing him should not rest on just one player’s shoulders. Every departure is a chance for others.
“Our team is good enough, even if Kevin is obviously someone who makes the difference.”
