Ghana Star In London For Chelsea Medical Ahead Of £14m Move, Personal Terms Agreed

With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the new season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea close-in on the signing of Baba Rahman
Baba Rahman is already in London preparing to undergo his medical after Chelsea finally agreed a deal with Augsburg for his signature this summer, according to the Guardian.
The Blues have been in the market for a new left-back after selling Filipe Luis back to Atletico Madrid last month and Rahman has been widely tipped to be the man Jose Mourinho wanted to replace the Brazilian international.
Sky Sports News reported last week that the 21-year-old had agreed personal terms with Chelsea and all that remained was for the Premier League champions to strike a deal with Augsburg.
It appears that after weeks of negotiations, the West Londoners have finally found a breakthrough as the Guardian are one of several media outlets who claim that a deal has now been agreed between the two clubs.
The newspaper suggests that Chelsea will pay the German outfit £14m up front with a further £6m in additional add-ons depending on the Blues’ performances and how many games Rahman plays.
The Guardian say that the Ghana international and his agent have already arrived in London where the defender is now waiting for the go-ahead to undergo his medical – which is expected to be conducted over the coming days.
As long as the medical goes through smoothly, Rahman should then be clear to complete his move to Stamford Bridge and he could be registered in time to be eligible for Chelsea’s huge game against Manchester City on Sunday.
The youngster only joined Augsburg from Greuther Fürth last summer but enjoyed a superb debut season at the club after helping them secure a record fifth-placed finish in the Bundesliga table last season.
He made what is almost certain to be his final appearance during a cup win over Elversberg last Friday and Augsburg manager Markus Weinzierl admitted after the game that the coaching staff are proud Rahman has attracted interest from a club like Chelsea.
Rahman faces a tough task breaking into the first team any time soon as Cesar Azpilicueta is Mourinho’s clear choice at left-back but he’ll be an exciting back-up to the Spaniard this coming season.
However, at 21, he’s also got plenty of time to learn from his more experienced team-mates before pushing for a first team place over the coming years and I think Rahman is going to prove to be an excellent signing for Chelsea.
