WAEC cancels results of 453 WASSCE candidates

The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has cancelled the entire results of 453 students who took part in this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to WAEC, they are also investigating 119 schools for engaging in mass cheating during the exams.
The council has also withheld results of candidates from 185 secondary schools for “alleged examination irregularities.”
The National Head of WAEC Ghana, Very Reverend Samuel Ollenu made these known at a press conference in Accra to announce the formal release of the 2015 WASSCE results.
In his remarks Reverend Ollenu stated that the cases of mass cheating were identified due to the introduction of a new anti-malpractice software.
He said: “Following the conclusion of investigations of cases of examination malpractices detected during the conduct of the examination, 1,859 candidates had their subject results canceled and 453 candidates had their entire results cancelled.”
“Additionally, the entire results of candidates presented by 185 schools have been withheld while investigations into alleged examination irregularities are being conducted. This number includes 119 schools which were involved in mass cheating in the objective test and were identified with the aid of the new anti-malpractice software which were call item deferential profile,” he added. A total of 268,771 candidates took part in the exams from 868 public and private second cycle schools.
