astern Regional NDC dismisses petitions for re-run of the parliamentary primaries because it found no merits in all the petitions for re-run in three constituencies in the region.
Three aggrieved NDC parliamentary aspirants in the region protested the results of the primaries in their respective constituencies, citing issues ranging from ballot irregularities and manipulation of results.
Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko and Kwasi Sekyi of the Affram Plains North, Upper Manya Krobo and Asene Manso Akroso constituencies respectively petitioned the party to nullify the results of their primaries and organize fresh elections.
To press home their demand for fresh elections, sympathizers of Bismark Tetteh Nyarko demonstrated and burnt vehicle tyres in Asesewa to protest the upper Manya results.
Speaking to Joy News on the sidelines of a reconciliation talks with the aspirants in the region, the party’s regional secretary, Mark-Oliver Kevor disclosed that the regional executive committee after going through the various petitions found no grounds to re-run elections in such areas.
“They were calling for re-run of elections in their constituencies, citing irregularities. The regional executive committee have sat on them and have concluded that they do not have enough basis to call for re-elections so we are going to write to them officially and urge them to avail themselves for the reconciliation talks we’ve started” Kevor explained.
Meanwhile the party’s regional chairman, Bismark Tawiah Boateng has told Joy News the spirit of the party has been rekindled after the primaries in all the 32 constituencies.
According to him the party will never deviate from its agenda of securing fifty percent of votes in the Eastern Region.
