Volta RCC's negligence cause of alavanyo/nkonya clashes
Youth for Peace and Security Africa, a youth group, is accusing the Volta Regional Coordinating Council of laxity in handling violent cases in the Alavanyo and Nkonya area.
The group which was previously helping in a mediation process between the two towns was halted by the Volta Regional Security Council.
“This calculated act of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council with Honourable Helen Torsu and the acting regional director spearheading to block the peace dialogue raises several questions,” he said.
In Mr. Klutse’s opinion some people seemed to be profiting from the conflict, hence the seeming lackadaisical attitude of the government in resolving the 90-year-old conflict.
“There is an allegation that some members of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council were making huge profits from the money meant for managing the conflict and would do everything possible to collapse any successful peace building,” he said, “The politics must stop and the business must stop.

He also appealed to the president of Ghana to bring back the peace process so that peace could be restored between Nkonya and Alavanyo.
“We humbly ask the president of Ghana to restore the peace process to allow the people to dialogue,” he continued, “Also, we humbly ask the president again to give justice to the people and provide relief items and better security to the people.”
However, he further said that if the president delayed another 48 hours from today and failed to honour their requests, “we shall also not wait again for another life to be lost or ignore the people of Nkonya and Alavanyo to go through hardship.”

We shall take all the suspected members of the government whose actions and inactions have resulted in the death of those five people to court, where they will justify why they should not be punished,” he added.
