The President was my target – Gunman confesses
The man who was arrested for possessing a gun at the church of President John Mahama has confessed that he intended to shoot the President.
Charles Antwi, 36, was picked up at the Ringway Gospel Centre branch of the Assemblies of God Church in Accra.
He made the confession Tuesday at an Accra circuit court presided over by Justice Francis Obiri.
He said, that was his fourth time going to the church adding that he has no document to the weapon.
He said in all the four times, he went with a gun three times adding that the president was in church the first time he went without any weapon.
Antwi was apprehended when a member of the congregation noticed his nervous and suspicious behaviour during the church service last Sunday.
According to the security source, a policeman and a member of the church escorted Antwi outside.
The loaded and cocked pistol was found following a search on him.
It was not immediately clear why he had carried the fully loaded gun into the church.
President John Dramani Mahama and his family worship regularly at the Ringway Gospel Centre but were not present in church last Sunday.
