Zambian pastor impregnates church member, attempts suicide
A Pentecostal church pastor of Christ Jubilation Church in Lusaka allegedly attempted to commit suicide by drinking poison after he had sex with a church member whom he later impregnated.
Martha Phiri 28, a teacher from John Laing, sued Mike Daka 32, a pastor at Christ Jubilation and also a welder at Sable Transport.
The facts before a Lusaka court were that two married in 2009 and had two children although the man had only paid Zambian K400 out of K5,100 he was charged.
Phiri said the problem started shortly after the two got married and since then the pastor had been exchanging girls like skirts.
She said Daka impregnated one of the girls he was flirting with although she pretended everything was alright.
Phiri said her husband was fond of talking to his girlfriends in her presence which indicated that he didn’t respect her or place value in their relationship.
Disappointed
“I have seen that he does not count on me as he can now call other girls in my presence and start discussion issues showing that he was not even concerned about what he was doing,” complained Phiri.
Phiri said she was also disappointed that Daka was fond of winking at his girlfriends while preaching and would leave church pretending was going to answer a call of nature.
“The fact that he has always been trying to take Doom (an insecticide) and his mother’s attempt to end her own life with a knife was not the reason (I took this action); but the insults I received from one of his girlfriends on 6th June 2015 plus his disappearance from home on Monday has prompted me to sue him for marriage reconciliation,” said Phiri
But Daka said his wife was a crook who had swindled a number of people and was fond of stealing money from home, including offering money.
“The other time I talked to the church elder to help us settle this but he said he did not want to be involved in our home problems,” said Daka.
In passing judgement, Senior Magistrate Serah Nyendwa refused to settle the marriage reconciliation but advised the aggrieved party to sue the other for divorce.
“Your marriage is over. I therefore cannot advise you to continue staying together as you are saying you have been planning to kill yourselves. But then Daka finish up paying for your marriage and then sue for divorce since you do not need her anymore,” Ms Nyendwa added.
