I'm sorry – Second lady apologizes
Days after slaming the Headmistress of Kukurantumi school for demanding chalk, the Second Lady, Matilda Amissah-Arthur has apologized for comments she made at a school in the Eastern Region, which has for the past few days put her in the media spotlight.
Madam Amissah-Arthur has come under heavy criticism for turning down a request to provide the Kukurantumi Presby School chalks, after she had made an initial donation of five computers and 500 books.
The Second lady who was special Guest at the 40th Anniversary of the Jack and Jill School in Accra said it’s unfortunate her comment was misunderstood.
“That wasn’t my intention,” she said.
“I was completely taken back when the headmistress asked for chalk… My response was intended to encourage community participation in the school. If what i said has offended people, I use this opportunity to say i am very sorry,” she said to cheers from the auditorium.
An incident that has seen some individuals and organisations go to the aid of the school with donations, it has stoked a huge debate of provision of basic working tools for educational institutions in the country.
