Garbage collectors declare strike

Garbage workers in Koforidua have declared strike over unpaid salaries. There is therefore a looming cholera outbreak in many parts of the New Juabeng Municipality in the Eastern Region. Filth has engulfed the area as waste collectors lay down their tools.

Heaps of garbage have been left in front of homes and on many streets in the municipality. Some residents of the area said the situation poses a serious threat to their health.

“This entire community is surrounded by filth. If we all contract cholera, then it means the government wants us to die that is why they have refused to pay workers of Zoomlion to enable them collect the garbage. The situation is the same in many other areas including, Asokore, Oyoko and Efiduase,” One of the worried residents noted.
