Selling medicines on buses, roadsides illegal – FDA

The regional officer of the Food and Drugs Authority Mr.Edward Vigil Prah Asihun has cautioned the public to stop buying medicines sold on buses and roadsides.
According to him, these sellers are not licensed and may not be located if any side effects develop after taking the medicines
Speaking in Kumasi, Mr Prah Asihun said one of the laws governing the FDA says one must be licensed in order to be able to sell medicines, but they only license premises, which excludes vehicles.
He said ignorance of the law is no excuse…” you see we have laws and being ignorant of it is not an excuse, if you go contrary to the law, we deal with you appropriately.
“As an institution, we can arrest if you go contrary to the law and you may be imprisoned”.
Mr Prah Asihun said the FDA organizes training for local pharmaceutical manufacturing companies and have trained staff who vet all the medicines before they go on the market.
