NDC, NPP clash over rally grounds at Talensi
Executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are at loggerheads with the police in Upper East region over the venue for their final rallies ahead of next Tuesday’s by-election in Talensi .
The NPP claims it had already secured a permit to use a park in Tongo for its rally only for the police to sanction the same venue for the NDC.
NPP National Youth Organiser Sammy Awuku alleged that executives of the NDC forged the letter that grants them access to the venue. The claim has, however, been dismissed by the ruling party.
Commenting on the development, ASP Thomas Agbanyo of the Upper East regional Police Command said that the matter is being resolved amicably.
“Both parties brought their letters for permission to organise their last rallies in the town but the NDC was more specific of the exact place and so in that regard, we insisted that; first come, first serve and we are trying to explain to the NPP.
“We have written to the NPP to come so that we can get them a new place and then provide security for them,” ASP Agbanyo said.
