Ghana Gas to begin compensation pay-out

The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) will on Monday, July 6, 2015 pay out another compensation package to 168 individuals affected by along the route of the gas pipeline.

The payment constitutes part of outstanding compensation to beneficiary farmers and property owners in communities along the 111-kilometre Right Of Way (ROW) from Atuabo in the Ellembele District to Aboadze in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis as well as the 75-kilometre lateral line from Essiama to Prestea, all in the Western region.

Beneficiaries of last Monday’s compensation package include individuals living within Kikam, Akango, Abelebo, Ankajare and Assuawuah.

A press release issued in Accra Thursday and signed by Mr Alfred Ogbamey, the Corporate Communications Manager of Ghana Gas, said GH¢1.5 million would be paid as part of the compensation package to the individuals whose crops and structures were destroyed to pave way for the Western Corridor Gas Development Infrastructure Project.

It mentioned the Essiama Palace as the venue for the payment.

The release asked owners of affected structures to send along valid government issued identity cards, while claimants of crop compensation must go with the original Form Fs issued to them by the Lands Valuation Division during the exercise to enumerate the crops.

It said payment would only be made upon receipt of the document, which serves as evidence of the entitlement of claimants to the compensation.

Ghana Gas, the release said, had already paid over GH¢20 million in compensation to beneficiaries since the inception of the project.
