Akos releases highlife song 'Mabre'
Following her brilliant performances on TV3’s Mentor 7 in 2013, many expected Roselyn Akosua Mantey to hit the market with good music.
But it has been two years now and Roselyn popularly known as Akos in music circles is yet to ‘blossom’ because her management team wanted her to do gospel music while she had interests in other genres.

The 26-year-old singer who has just released a highlife song, Mabre, laid the blame of her inability to come out at the doorstep of her managers. She told Showbiz recently that, “ I was forced into doing gospel even though I told them I had no interest in that genre.
“Gospel music is not my thing. I didn’t want to deceive my fans that I’m doing the work of God when I patronise nightclubs among others. For me, I believe one needs to be called by God to be able to come out with good gospel music.
Passionate
“Also, one needs to be passionate about something in order to come out with a quality product. So here is the case where I didn’t have an interest in what I was being forced to do. So there was no way I could come out with something good. Thus, I was not going to put just anything out there for my fans. That will not be fair to them”.
Akos, the only female to have clinched a Mentor title since its inception is hopeful her new song, Mabre will pave the way to her journey into the music industry.
“My strength lies in highlife and I know Mabre, will do the magic for me. I was supported by Nana Kwame Ampadu and you know he is a legend so I know my fans will love it”, she added.
On Mabre which talks about the need for partners to be faithful to each other, Akos sings about how most long distance relationships have always landed on rocks.
For her, it is a wrong choice for lovers to stay apart when “love needs the presence of both parties to grow”.
According to her, she decided to come out with Mabre to caution young ladies who go in for long distance relationships because they hardly work.
“Most of such relationships end in heartaches so the song just advises the young ladies to look at men close to them instead of those who live far away who might not be in for the long haul”, she added.
