President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in the recently appointed Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei.
Mrs Osei was confirmed on Tuesday at the Flagstaff House.
A number of leaders from the different political groupings including the New Patriotic Party’s Paul Afoko were in attendance.
Charlotte Osei becomes the first lady to head the commission, succeeding Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan who was at the helm of affairs for about two decades.
She tended in her resignation as Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education on Monday 29th June 2015.
She is a legal advisor with experience in corporate law, public service, management and institutional reform.
Her appointment has been met with mixed responses. While some endorse her new portfolio, others believe she does not have the requisite experience to hold that office.
Others have additionally reprimanded the President for her appointment, saying he neglected the advice of the Council of State before selecting her.
The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Mr Kwesi Pratt has however downplayed those reactions, saying he didn’t break the law.
