Andre Ayew says he is taking vital lessons from Asamoah Gyan as he prepares himself to be the next captain of the Black Stars.
The 25-year-old, who is currently the deputy captain, is in line to take up the mantle once Gyan leaves the scene.
The captain’s armband was passed on to Gyan after it became evident that John Mensah could no longer continue in that capacity after nursing injury for a long period and remaining clubless over a period of time.
Andre Ayew who joined English club Swansea some few weeks ago has not kept secret his desire to be captain of the Black Stars.
“I am learning from him. Baby [Asamoah Gyan] always says one day he will leave the captaincy to me,” Ayew said.
“I will keep looking up to him because one day I will be there.”
The former Olympique Marseille man would become the second member of his family to captain the Black Stars, following in his father, Abedi Pele’s footsteps. Abedi Pele led the team from the early 80s to the late 90s.
Andre Ayew captained Ghana’s U20 team which became the first African side to win the FIFA World Cup at that level in 2009 in Egypt.
Most of the regular players in the current Black Stars team are products of that iconic team of which Ayew was captain.
