Sergio Aguero: 'I can achieve all I want to at Manchester City'
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has again insisted he is happy at the club and has no intention of leaving.
Aguero, 27, won the Premier League Golden Boot last season with 26 goals, but City could not defend their title as they finished second to Chelsea.
The club’s disappointing Champions League form continued as they were knocked out in the round of 16 by eventual champions Barcelona, and Aguero wants to make sure glory returns to the Etihad Stadium — as well as win the Ballon d’Or at the club.
“The only reason a player should leave a club is to achieve things, and I can achieve all I want to at City,” Aguero, who has been linked with Real Madrid by AS in Spain, is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
“I can’t stop rumours. I can’t stop people writing things. But what I can do is repeat what I have already said, and that is that I’m very happy at Manchester City.
“I have had success over the last four seasons there and I’m hungry for a lot more. Of course the Premier League is a big priority and we want to win it back, but it is a big dream to win the Champions League at City as well.”
City are expected to strengthen over the summer in a bid to win by the Premier League crown, though they have been rebuffed in their attempts to lure Raheem Sterling from Liverpool for £40 million
And the Argentina international, currently away at the Copa America, expects boss Manuel Pellegrini to be backed in the transfers market.
“Each summer, City will add some of the best players in the world to the team,” he said. “That is the way of the clubs who want to win titles. I’m sure that this summer will be the same.
“I would have loved City to sign Leo [Messi]. He is my good friend and the best in the world, but his loyalty is so firm to Barcelona and you have to respect that.”
