Ghana’s Black Stars beat Togo 1-0 in an international friendly today, thanks to debutante Bernard Mensah’s strike at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Both Ghana and Togo are preparing for their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier campaign.
The Black Stars will take on Mauritius at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, June 14 in their first 2017 AFCON qualifier game.
Togo was without their captain and star striker, Emmanuel Adebayor, who missed the game due to injury.
Black Stars started the game very aggressively, but failed to score on the half hour mark, but Bernard Mensah put the host ahead with a brilliant 34th minute strike.
Ghana has faced the Hawks of Togo 31 times, including friendly matches, out of which the Black Stars have won 16, losing 6. Nine games have ended in a draw.
Out of the 15 games that have been played in Togo, Ghana has managed 4 wins, 5 draws and 5 defeats.
After the game, Black Stars coach Avram Grant said during the press conference: “The win is on the cards, as expected, but we would have scored more, but (it is) a good start before taking on Mauritius in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier”.
