Suspected Ebola patient at KNUST hospital tests negative

A suspected Ebola patient at the University Hospital of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) yesterday which caused fear and panic at the hospital and among the university community has tested negative for the virus.
The suspect, a man from Sierra Leone, who had reported at the hospital in the late hours of Tuesday, December 2, 2014 to visit his wife at the Osei Tutu II Medical Complex of the hospital reportedly recorded an extremely high temperature.
A staff member at the hospital who wished to remain anonymous indicated that the man later passed bloody stool, which caused an alarm to be raised. The  doctor on duty ordered the man and all personnel who had come into contact with the man to be quarantined.
The man is believed to have arrived in the country from Sierra Leone about four days previous because his wife had been admitted at the University Hospital for an unrelated medical condition.
A blood sample of the patient was later sent to Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) for confirmation.
Mr Kwame Frimpong, the Public Relations Officer at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, confirmed to Kessben TV news that a patient had been admitted to the hospital and was being tested for the Ebola virus.
