Power supply in Ashanti Region is "complex" – PRO

Supplying power in the Ashanti Region is more complex than perceived, Electricity Company Ghana (ECG) Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer,Mr Erasmus Baidoo has said.
Speaking to Kessben Television, Mr Baidoo said the supply is shared mathematically and that distributing the power is mostly beyond ECG since the megawatt is not stable.
He added that the load capacity in the evenings is up to 240 megawatts, but when it happens that they should go for 50 megawatts, that should mean that the region will have 290megawatts, which should be enough. He said during off-peak time the region has a capacity of about a 180-200 megawatts maximum but this changes in the evenings.
“The power supply in this region is more complex than anyone can ever percieve, we share it mathematically and it’s sometimes a bit difficult to determine which area should go off”, Mr Baidoo said.
The Public Relations Officer refused to comment on reports that the ECG would be privatised as part of recommendations for the IMF bailout.
He said the problem is not the time table but the power available, and pleaded with the people in the region to bear with ECG.
