Mahama appoints new ECG boss

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Robert Dwamena as acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
A statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani, said the former MD, Rev. Ing. William Hutton-Mensah, who is on his annual leave, has been re-assigned to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
Dwamena, who until his appointment was Director of Procurements at the ECG, started his career with the Engineering Directorate of the Company in 1982.
President Mahama has meanwhile asked the Omanhene of Abeadze and President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, to act as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECG, a statement from the presidency read.
“It follows the resignation of Tony Oteng Gyasi on health grounds,” it said.
The new appointments come in the wake of acute power outages that have left businesses and industries without power for up to 48 hours.
President Mahama is “expected to make some new appointments to various boards. The appointments will also affect the Energy Ministry.”
