A shortage of fuel looms as General Petroleum, Transport and Chemical Workers Union workers go on strike today, Tuesday, November 18.
The strike may also disrupt provision of some transportation services.
The oil workers are striking over the dismissal of 40 Ghanaian workers on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.
MODEC dismissed the workers when they refused to sign a bond of good behaviour after being on strike to demand a salary increment.
On November 11, 12 Ghanaians working with MODEC also laid down their tools to demand the reinstatement of their sacked colleagues.
Fuseini Iddrisu, the General Secretary of the Union, said the strike could have a serious impact on the nation if even a few of their members comply.
“If the few that we are targeting should embark on a strike for a day it would have a big impact on the nation,” Iddrisu said.
The solidarity strike, which is backed by the Trades Union Congress (TUC), will involve workers of the Petroleum Tankers Union; the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo), Bulk Oil Storage & Transportation Co. Ltd. (BOST) and Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) among others.
