The National Peace Council has raised an alarm over rising unemployment and the increasing cost of living in the country, saying these issues, if not addressed, couldthrow the country into chaos.
Director of Conflict Resolution and Management at the National Peace Council, George Amoh, expressed these sentiments on the sidelines of a training workshop for journalists in the Volta region.
“Though we have a semblance of peace, the peace is not the positive one that we all look out for as we have here today,” Amoh said.
He added that: “We have so many people who are walking on the streets without jobs, graduates who have left schools without jobs, these are problems, [which] if are not tackled and managed can create violence in our systems”.
Mr Amoh called on government to improve the living standards of Ghanaians to avert any possible violence.
In a recent Afrobarometer study, Ghanaians rated their living conditions “bad” or “very bad”.
