Charterhouse files GH¢10m lawsuit against Shatta Wale

Events company Charterhouse are suing Shatta Wale for defamation at the Accra High Court and is seeking damages of GH¢10million
Self-acclaimed dancehall king, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr. aka Shatta Wale was heavily critical of Charterhouse in a series of videos released online.
The two plaintiffs, Charterhouse and its CEO, Iyiola Ayoade, hope the Fast Track Division of the Accra High Court will find the musician guilty of defamation.
They are therefore seeking “an unqualified apology and retraction of each of the four separate videos with the approval by the plaintiffs prior to the recording and uploading” to his Facebook page and to remain on his page for one month within a week of the judgment.
Charterhouse also want Shatta Wale to send the four videos in which he renders apologies to the plaintiffs to “all media houses and online publications that have aired the defamatory videos complained of and ensure that same and/or published at his own expense” within a week of the judgment.
The plaintiffs are also seeking for an “order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendant, his agents, manager(s), privies and assigns or any person through him and howsoever described from making and/or repeating the defamatory statements or similar statements in the nature of the ones complained in the video recordings.”
Shatta Wale accused Charterhouse of being corrupt and “foolish” in the videos and warned owners to stop denying musicians from other regions recognition.
The acrimony between the two parties started a year ago  when Shatta Wale felt snubbed by Charterhouse, who are Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, for failing to award him the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste Of The Year title.
This year, Shatta Wale returned the favour by snubbing the new title of 2014 VGMA Artiste of the Year and refused to attend the awards ceremony, where it is alleged he was demanding GHc70,000 to perform, which Charterhouse refused to pay.
