Ex-Liverpool star pays for homeless team to compete in World Cup
Dan Agger, formerly of Liverpool, heard of Denmark’s homeless team wanting to compete in the World Cup in Chile but required £2,100 to cover the trip.
So Agger stepped in and funded the costs to Santiago, ensuring that the eight players could fly to the tournament in October.
Charity worker, Frits Ahlstrom, told Danish television channel TV2: “I talked to [Agger] and told him that we still had 20,000 krone to go, and he replied without hesitation: I’ll give it to you.’
“There is no substitute for class and Daniel has it on as well as off the field and as a player and a person.”
