Wakaso reveals Blacks Stars players influence in choosing Celtic
Mubarak Wakaso has shed light on how four members of the Black Stars who once played in England influenced his loan choice of Celtic.
Wakaso completed his loan move to Celtic this week from Rubin Kazan under acrimonious circumstances because left to the fans of his former Russian club, the Ghanaian winger would have remained with the club.
The 24-year old revealed how he arrived at that decision.
“At the last World Cup I was with Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan, Kevin Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari.
“It was good to be with such people because you learn a lot from them. I believe I can make it as big as them.
“I took advice from some of them to come here. They told me Celtic is a great team with a fantastic history that I can make it big here so I said ‘okay’.”
The quartet have good memories of the United Kingdom. Essien spent nine years with Chelsea, Boateng was once with Tottenham Hotspurs, Muntari with Portsmouth and Gyan with Sunderland.
Ironically, aside Gyan, the other three are currently serving an indefinite suspension from Black Stars duties for their roles in the Brazil 2014 scandal but that did not prevent him from seeking their advice.
Wakaso might have signed a loan deal with the Hoops and is yet to officially feature for them but is subconsciously eyeing a longer stay. “In my mind I won’t be here for only one season. I know I will make it big and stay with Celtic for a long time.”
